What is a mircoform?

Microform is a blanket term for all scaled-down reproductions of documents made for the purposes of transmission, storage, reading, and printing. Microfilm, microfiche, and microcard are all types of microform.

Before libraries had robust digital collections, microforms allowed them to have large collections while reducing the physical space those collections take up.

They are generally too small to be read by the naked eye, so you need to put them in a special reader that magnifies and displays the document on a screen. These blown up images can be printed, emailed, or saved on a USB drive.

We have microforms in a few different places in Steen Library. If you have trouble finding or using them, please let us know.
